Pages 136-7 - Self Respect (Answer Key)

On pages 136 and 137 of DBT Holistic Skills Workbook for Teens, students are asked to see if they can Recognize Self-Respect in others. In this wonderful activity, they are given the example of Jacob who feels compelled to over-apologize for something he didn’t even do, for fear of disappointing his roommate. In DBT, this can be classified as struggling with having an opinion. It’s great that Jacob is so kind and doesn’t want to upset his roommate, but his excessive apologetic behavior reveals that Jacob may be struggling to find his own self-respect.

That example was provided already-answered, but there are 5 more examples for students to draw arrows, as well as determine whether or not each character appears to Mastering or Struggling with each of the 4 Principles of Confident Self-Respect (Fairness, Opinion, Honesty, and Values). (See page 135 in the Workbook, for explanation of these 4 principles!)
